Hair Loss Products - Types Available to Consumers
By Chris Our

Hair loss is a problem that affects millions of people around the world. Male pattern baldness is the most common type of hair loss in men. This hair loss can be most disconcerting, especially when it happens to a young male. However, this problem is not reserved only for men. Women and children can also have hair loss, due to several different reasons. This article discusses the causes of hair loss and the types of hair loss products that are available to consumers today.

The Causes

People experience hair loss due to a wide variety of reasons. Because of the wide variety of causes of hair loss, it can be difficult to find a hair loss product that works for you. Stress and illness can cause temporary hair loss. When the body is trying to heal itself when faced with sickness, a person’s hair may fall out due to the stress. The hormone imbalances associated with pregnancy and childbirth often causes women’s hair loss.

It's important to understand that pregnancy-induced hair loss is generally temporary so new mothers should expect their hair to start growing again immediately after the child is born, or when the baby is a few months old at the latest. It is also common knowledge that chemotherapy treatments can also cause the loss of one's hair. Family genes can be partly to blame with some forms of hair loss. There is some scientific evidence that supports the idea that male-pattern-baldness is hereditary and a product of lineage. So chances are if your father and/or grandfather are bald, you will probably be bald also. It's best to talk to a doctor about your specific circumstance, so he can recommend the right treatment for you.

Treatments

There are many different types of hair loss products on the market today. Hair replacement is a very popular treatment option for both men and women. This is where hair follicles are taken from another part of the body, often the back of the scalp, and transplanted to the top of the scalp and hairline. For many people, surgery isn't the best option. The high price tag is also a factor in these decisions. In these cases there are numerous productions available that can help. One of the most popular options is Minoxidil.

While Minoxidil was originally developed as a high blood pressure medication, a known side effect was the re-growth of hair. Since it wasn't very effect at treating high blood pressure, it was remarketed as a treatment for hair loss. Propecia (finasteride) is another popular option. Originally developed to treat prostate issues, it was also determined to be more effective at stimulating hair growth. Since every patent is different it is importance to talk to your physician before starting any treatment program.
